Some pictures and stuff

My gorgeous family. I could not love them any more.
This picture was taken last Monday, November 12,
about 6.5 hours before the first seizure.

A little update:
Chad's surgery went well Saturday morning. He's already out of NICU & is in a regular room. He's doing phenomenal - so much better than we anticipated after the surgery.

Dr. Koeleveld got a sample for biopsy, which we should know the results of by Wednesday at the latest. Unfortunately, he was not able to remove any of the larger tumor. We knew this was a strong possibility, so we weren't surprised - just disappointed.
Chad's doing well though - there were no complications. He got to take a little ride around the hospital and went outside for the first time in a week. We had a good day today.
Now, we just wait for the results. But we should still be home for Turkey Day - we are so looking forward to that.

Given what's happened in the last week, I need to take a step back. I need to look at a time that was a little less complicated, and a lot more joyful.
I was planning to write a nice blog about the surprise 40th anniversary party we threw for Chad's parent's last Saturday. So, I will.

We had been planning this party for a few months. We hit a few hiccups along the way, but managed to keep it a surprise.

We told a little white lie - that we wanted to have a family portrait taken for their anniversary gift. Fortunately for them, there was a photographer doing sessions in Stedman at the rec center last Saturday and we happened to have a 12:00 appointment. (Man, did they fall for it!)

We arrived in Stedman on Friday night. I assembled and stressed about the cake I made for the occasion. We slept well, got dressed & decorated the reception room. We picked his parents up and headed over there.
I knew we had successfully pulled it off when Chad's mom came out of her house with hairspray & a brush. She had no idea!

We opened the door while everyone yelled SURPRISE! It was such a wonderful surprise. Chad's mom & dad were shocked, and we were so happy that we kept it a secret and were able to have so many of their loved ones attend.

We ate. We saw lots of photos. We talked. It was great. Most of the Lanford family came down from New York, and then there were plenty of people from Stedman. I think we had right at 50 people. I don't think it could have been any better.

We stayed again Saturday night, so we could visit with everyone. Everyone went to the park ad played - it was a gorgeous day, but a little cold. Shannon & I picked up pizzas for dinner & we all just laughed, talked & stuffed ourselves.
Most of the NY crew was heading back up on Sunday morning. Luckily, Monday (their true anniversary) was Veteran's Day and we had the day off - so we decided to stay one more day.

Monday was nice and quiet. We ate with my mom & the girls played. Then we went back to Chad's parents, just to see his aunt & uncle. We intended to leave around 12, but actually left around 3:15 or so. We had so much stuff for the party that we had to drive separate vehicles. I went ahead, and Chad followed a few minutes behind. It was a little after 4pm when we got home.

We unpacked. We were so tired. I was supposed to have bought groceries on Monday, but we stayed an extra day with his family so I missed my grocery trip. And I didn't get to clean as much as I wanted before I left. I was dreading Tuesday - I had so much to do, and Carys had school. It was going to be so busy.
The girls were hungry, so I made their beloved chicken nuggets, baked some fries & made some veggie that I cannot recall. We had one bottle of champagne left from the party, so we opened it. Mmmmm. Champagne and chicken nuggets. We're so sophisticated. We laughed about it, but drank it anyway & celebrated our glorious weekend.

The girls went to bed before 8 - they were tired too. Carys told me she was ready to go to school - she missed the entire previous week because she was sick.

Chad & I did a few things around the house & both wearily headed to bed at 9:15. We talked briefly about what a great weekend it was and agreed that we didn't want to get up the next morning. We were exhausted, but so happy about our weekend. We discussed our plans to go to the mountains by ourselves the next weekend, and how the next two weeks were going to fly by.

We slept peacefully for about an hour until our world turned upside down.
We had a great weekend though, and I am so thankful for that.
