The end of the school year

Today was Carys' last day of preschool. Her last day in the 3-year-old room (even though she's 4.5 years old. Gotta love those late birthdays!)

She had such a great day. The school got one of those huge inflatable bounce houses and let the kids run amok. And then they had a pizza party, complete with sugar overload.

This first year of a structured learning environment was hard for her. She was excited to start school last fall. But she did have a rough patch here & there. She learns best by getting her hands dirty, not following directions (and subsequently learning what not to do from the view of time-out stool), and drowning out any and everything else with her incessant (and infectious) laughter and talking.
However, she has made so many improvements this year. I'm no longer anxious to leave her in the classroom for fear of who she may maim or embarrass (--ME!--). She's a good little girl. She likes to laugh, play & learn. She loves her little preschool friends and talks about them all the time. She's going to miss them all this summer.

I don't think she realizes just how long the summer will be. I, personally, cannot wait to lounge by the pool with the girls, play in the sunshine, chase lightening bugs after dark & just be.
No school lunches to pack each night.
No fussing in the mornings to get up & dressed.
No breakfast-time meltdowns.
Really. I cannot wait to sleep in tomorrow. (Let's just hope that BOTH girls share my enthusiasm after 7am at least.)

I think next Fall will be easier for us all. She's nervous (already) about getting a new teacher, but I've assured her that her friends will still be there. I've also had to convince her that her new teacher will be just as fun as Ms. Angela.

I cannot believe that my little girl has one year of preschool left before she starts KINDERGARTEN. Where has the time gone? Where did my little tiny baby go?
She's growing up.
Way too fast.

And before my very eyes.

Oh, it's so true that they grow up too fast. My girls just finished up preschool too. Careful what you wish for. We spent yesterday at the pool and it was FREEZING! LOL. Love the picture in the strawberry patch. Wish I could find one around here!

What a sweet post about Carys. I'm so glad that things got better for her after such a rough start to the schoolyear. She is a precious girl.
