The dog ate my homework ?

I have an excuse for being so slack on the blog lately. A good one. Really.
Several really good reasons, in fact.

1) We were out of town this past weekend at the fabulous wedding of Brian & Melissa.
It was fun. It was beautiful. The father-of-the-bride made me cry when he toasted the couple.
2) Carys had another nasty round of croup early Tuesday morning. It was strange - it disappeared so quickly this time - but it was brutal. Scared us both.

3) Carys had a tummy bug late last week. And my weary body decided to get it on Tuesday afternoon. Nausea. Fever. Aches. Chills. Could be the flu, but I doubt it. Granted, it would be my luck because I haven't gotten around to getting a flu shot yet this year.

4) Chad caught the crud, or something mimicking a nasty chest cold. He wouldn't have gone to work today if he hadn't already used so much sick time with chemo.

5) Did I mention I sprained my ankle this past Saturday and today is the first day I've really been able to walk and not resemble a hobbit? Or the Hunchback of Notre Dame.
But now my back is out of whack because I've been walking funny for a week.

6) I couldn't peel myself off the couch to go to my child's Christmas party at preschool. Carys didn't realize that me saying, "Carys, Mommy can't come to your Christmas party because I'll get everyone sick" actually translated into "Carys, Mommy can't come to your Christmas party because I'll get everyone sick." She was devastated that I "forgot" to come to her party and I felt so bad. I think she forgave me after I explained to her that I just didn't feel well, but it still hurt to see her so upset about it.
7) In the wee hours of the morning (4:28 am to be exact), Carys let me know that her ear hurt.
Ironically, it's her right ear. You know, the ear that recently had a tube removed from it because it was DONE doing it's job and she shouldn't have any more ear infections?
Blasphemy! That child "has one of the top five nastiest ear infections I've ever seen" -- words straight from the doctor's mouth. Carys is probably going to need another set of tubes, but I'll reserve judgment until the next ear infection (in two weeks, when we discover the antibiotics didn't do anything this time around....).

So, I apologize. There's no recipe today. Frankly, I haven't eaten much all week and have been letting these other Lanfords fend for themselves in the kitchen. Basically, if they could reach it, they could have it. I did manage to boil fettuccine noodles Tuesday evening, but that's as far as I got. The thought, smell or sight of food sends a nasty little wave of rumbling nausea to my innards. And the fatigue, it's.....just.....overwhelmingzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....
And Cailyn is just fine. Fine and dandy.
I really hope that she stays that way, and the rest of us are all over our funky funkiness by the end of a restful weekend.

Maybe things will be back to normal next week.
Wait.
Next week is Christmas, so scratch that.
Maybe things will be back to normal the week after that....oh no, that's New Years.

Oh. Well, then.
I'll see you sometime before 2009, I'm sure.

Sorry to hear you and Carys are sick. I hope everyone is well and feeling better by Christmas. Seems like the Holidays are always accompanied by an illness or two.

It seems different countries, different cultures, we really can decide things in the same understanding of the difference!
