When you're a Mom....

You do things for the little people in your lives that you wouldn't dream of doing for anyone else.

Here are my TOP TEN (eleven, really - I forgot one!) so far this week.

#11
I try really hard not to laugh and cry at the same time when Carys embarrasses me. This week at the pediatrician's office, she was just out of control. She wouldn't cooperate with the doctor - and was quite rude. She's usually a delightful child, albeit headstrong, and I was shocked.
After I picked myself up off the floor from embarrassment that MY child behaved that way (only other people's kids can be brats, right? not mine!), and apologized profusely, she got me. Again.
At the end of the never-ending visit (hello!?!?! we had to wait 75 minutes to see the doctor!), she decided she needed a sticker. And she emptied the ENTIRE sticker wheel onto the floor. Hundreds, if not thousands, of brightly-colored stickers were EVERYWHERE.
So I'm on my hands & knees, trying to figure out where Batman, Candyland, and the SpongeBob stickers belong.

#10
I buy watermelon, because they love it. Then I spend way too much time scraping each & every seed out because Carys is convinced a watermelon will grow in her belly if she swallows one. I also have to cut it into tiny chunks for Cailyn...and of course Carys wants hers that way too.

#9
I make three different dinners - one for Carys, one for Cailyn, and one for us adults. I don't do this often, but she wasn't feeling well, soooo.....
And then everything Cailyn eats has to be cut up into teensy weensy pieces.
And I always forget to give them something to drink. I mean, with all the cutting & preparing & cooking & what-not, who remembers necessities like cups???

#8
I wipe far too many little lady butts on a daily basis. And sometimes, with the Wee-est Lanford Lady, it gets on me. Not fun, my kidless friends. Not. Fun.
But I suppose anything involiving poo is no fun.

#7
I try not to scream when the Wee-est Lanford is falling asleep at night & lovingly pinches the crap out of the back of my arm. Sometimes, my eyes tear up and I try to move her hand so she doesn't wake up fully. The back of your arm is not the nicest place to be pinched with itty bitty baby fingers.
She also gently taps my back & dreamily says "MMMaaaa" right before she dozes off. That makes all the random bruises on my arms worth it.

#6
I spend way too much time gently combing tangles out of Carys' crazed mane.
Seriously.
I usually miss a good half-hour of the news in the morning, as well as my second cup of hot coffee. It's always room temp when I get back to it.

#5
I talk to myself (it seems) a lot. And I do mean A LOT. And I also grossly exaggerate syllables. How else will these little princesses learn to speak? It makes for some strange glances from strangers in Wal-Mart.
Here comes the crazy lady that talks to herself in Dr. Seuss fashion. Weirdo!

#4
I read the same friggin' book at least 11.6 times per day.
How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?
Can we get a NEW book, puh-lease? It's a good book, but when Carys has it memorized, it's time to move on.

#3
I spend hours researching fun things to do & new ways to teach my girls something new.
Only to hear: "Can we go swing? This is born-ing, Mom!"
Hm. Okie Dokie. Swingin' it is, then.

#2
I find random pieces of petrified fruit & lunch meat, extremely foul milk (in sippy cups that mysteriously disappear for 3 days in 100+ heat & then show up without warning)...and wonder why our home hasn't been swallowed by a swarm of mega-ants.
Or why we're not all suffering from salmonella. Or botulism. Or the ick.

#1
I search & search & search our house & yard for a beloved Lovey. The pink Baby, lovingly named Baby. (Original, yes?!?!) Only to find, that after my second day of searching, Carys remembers that she put her somewhere safe....between her headboard and bedside table.
And then covered her with a blanket. HOW did I miss that?

Don't you know it! I think this is a blog for every mom out there.
I could totally do without those curdled milk sippy cups.
In a weird way I miss the pinching the crap out of the back and inside of my arm. Darcy won't lay like that anymore.

I always forget drinks for the kids at dinner too- and then I'm all irritated because that adds one more time of getting up during the meal (to the other 100 times). I love your blog - so fun to read! And Carys - she is SO grown now! Good luck at preschool!
