Raising Southern Belles

Me: What would you like for snack? You can have apple slices, a banana or an orange.
Carys: Hmmmm. Banana, please.
Cailyn: I would wike gweens.
Me: Greens? Like a salad?
Cailyn: No! Gweens.

After a few other guesses, I still had no idea what she was talking about - so I told her to show me. She took my hand and led me to the pantry. I opened it on command, and she dove in. She handed me a canned good.

Canned. Turnips.

Ha.
Carys quickly changed her vote from banana to turnip greens.

Can you believe that?

Yuck! And I'm from the south! Happy, healthy eating girls! I take it they like cabbage also?

They got that from their mama. You used to do the same thing! Then, you discovered chocolate and created your own food pyramid.

Terrific. Can I send my three to your house to see if they can be converted-- to these good, no great eating habits.

That is hilarious! I can honestly say I have never ever seen a can of turnips. Ever. I'll have to look at the store next time I go and see if we even have those here in the midwest! :)
